Drachm (Silver, 33 mm, 4.00 g, 3 h), Arab-Sasanian type, citing governor al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufra (AH 75-79 / AD 694-698), BYŠ (Bishapur), AH 75 = AD 694/5. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing an elaborate mural crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt'’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘mwhʾlp' Y / ʾbwcwplʾʾn’ (‘al-Muhallab son of Abu Sufra’ in Pahlavi); in the outer margin, ‘bism Allāh’ (‘In the name of Allah’ in Arabic); to left, ‘MW’ (‘abbreviation for the name of al-Muhallab in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, BYŠ (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Album 31. Nicely toned. Some scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
